About the Daily Repeater
The Daily Repeater is a side project, made by a watch enthusiast for other watch enthusiasts. I wanted one place to see what the watch press had published each day, and when the apps that used to do that went quiet, I built my own.
The name comes from the minute repeater, the complication that chimes the time when you ask it to. This does the same for watch news: open it and you get the newest stories from the publications it reads, with the stories several of them covered gathered into one card.
What it shows, and where it sends you
Every publication gets the same card: the headline, a sentence or two of summary, and the article's lead image. Tap a card and you go to the article on the publication's own site. The Daily Repeater never shows the article itself, so every read is a visit to the people who wrote it.
Search
Search reads the full text of articles from publications that allow it, so a search for a calibre or a reference finds the article that mentions it in the ninth paragraph. For the others it searches the headline and summary. Results show a short passage around the words you searched for, then send you to the article.
Brands and stories
Every brand the Daily Repeater follows has its own page gathering that brand's coverage from across the publications, listed on the brands page. When several publications write about the same watch, the story gets a page too, with every version of it side by side.
Following
Follow a brand, a model or any phrase and the Following tab gathers every new article that mentions it, with a count of what is new since you last looked. Turn on alerts there and your phone tells you when a new article mentions one of them. On iPhone, alerts work once the Daily Repeater is added to the Home Screen.
How it reads the publications
It reads each publication's public RSS feed every fifteen minutes. Where a feed leaves out the image or summary, or where search covers the full text, it also reads the article page once, slowly. It identifies itself as DailyRepeaterBot and follows every robots.txt rule and crawl delay.
For publishers
If you publish one of these titles and would like it shown differently, or taken out, write to hello@dailyrepeater.com and I will make the change as soon as I can. This is one person's spare-time project, so please bear with me on replies. The same address is the place to ask to be added, or to let me show more of your work, such as your images or your full text in search.
Advertising
An advertisement appears after every sixteenth story, clearly labelled. It helps cover what the site costs to run, and no publication is ranked or hidden because of it. If you are a brand interested in that space, the same address reaches me, though a reply may take a little while.
The Daily Repeater is independent and is not affiliated with any publication or watch brand.
